The Coimbatore Peace Festival, now in its 34th edition in 2025, is one of the longest running, impactful and much noticed public engagement initiative organized by Shanti Ashram, aimed at empowering youth and children to build a compassionate, peaceful and cohesive society. Over the past 33 years, nearly 1,000 children and young people have participated in this inspiring event annually and which is made possible through the unwavering support of over 40 partner institutions from across Coimbatore.
Last year’s festival was held at PSG Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, a packed auditorium of eager child and youth volunteers filled the festival with their volunteering, community service experience, artistic presentations, public hearings, interfaith prayers, remembrance of Hiroshima & Nagasaki and a resolve to do their part in building a more peaceful world. Purely volunteer driven this festival dedicated to PEACE has grown from strength to strength.
A special mention goes to Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT) and its social responsibility initiative ‘Namadhu Pangu’, which has been a meaningful partner since 2009 to organize the Coimbatore Peace Festival. That year, as part of the Super Congress, the KCT campus hosted the Coimbatore Peace Festival for the first time, followed by editions in 2011, 2013 and for 2025, we are grateful to once again collaborate with KCT as we continue our shared commitment to peace-building and youth engagement.
Specific Objectives of the 34th Edition of Coimbatore Peace Festival 2025:
Commemorating the 80th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima as a ‘day of prayer & commitment for peace’.
Launching of annual initiatives that promote an intergenerational commitment to equitable and peaceful societies through the active involvement of children
Initiating phase 13 of India Poverty Solutions 2025, an action oriented national campaign to address child poverty
Awarding of the 2nd edition of the ‘Chandra Ashwathi Young Leaders Award’
Absence of war or violence is not real Peace. Absence of War is peace only in the negative sense of the term.
But in the positive sense of the term, peace means a harmonious way of living
based on a shared ethic of human solidarity!
